Alex’s pops is the legendary Ushio Shinohara. We’re at Ushio’s studio in front of one of his signature boxing paintings. Alex is a spectacular artist in his own right.

trailer for fresh, the movie, one of the excellent documentaries i watched at the south bronx food and film festival. i thought it was an insightful as well as inspiring look at the present state of our agricultural system and alternatives. great flick!

NY Ink is the shop with the red awning in the photo , behind the crazy looking ride. I took that flick this past spring when I was working down here; I love working in the neighborhood I grew up in. I spoke to the guy who built the vehicle; If I’m remembering correctly he said he had a promising career designing props or fx for movies and lost it all to drugs. Years later, clean, he uses cars as his creative outlet. He was a really nice guy and seemed like he was enjoying himself, driving around with his buddies on a sunny june afternoon.
